While the official launch date is nice, it's only one tease in the conversation, which seems to fortnite items feature a mask emerging from among those rifts that keep popping in-game up. While fan speculation around the mask is currently warming up on the internet, it seems most likely that this is really a reference to the Japanese kitsune, or fox. In accordance with Japanese yokai folklore, the kitsune can shapeshift -- largely into human form -- also possesses various supernatural attributes.
As soon as it's hard to say what this might mean for Fortnite Season 5, it does appear to be the fortnite materials for sale first reference to Japan we've seen so far. Though other eras of history have appeared -- such as wooden carriages, pirate references or anchors to early Egypt -- that is actually the first time we've seen something which points to Historical Japan as a potential influence to this season's heavily theorized, but still unconfirmed, time-travel theme.
More importantly, at least for most players, is the Fortnite Details risk that this may tease a kitsune skin unlocked throughout the Season 5 Battle Pass. The very first teases for Season 4 showed skins which were available via its Battle Pass so it doesn't look like much of a stretch. |
